Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under direct supervision of the Program Coordinator, assists teachers in providing classroom experiences to enhance and promote the educational, intellectual, and social growth and development of children. Serves as Bus Monitor and assists Bus Driver while children are transported to and from school. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Works under the direct supervision of the Program Manager.

NATURE OF WORK
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provides safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for children to and from the OOCS on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Transports students on planned field trips.
• Assists children as needed.
• Supervises students while transporting to ensure safety.
• Maintains log or schedule of activities as required
• Inspects vehicles before driving to include: gas, oil, water, and brake and transmission levels, to ensure safety of operation.
• Performs routine safety checks on vehicles to include: operable brake lights, turn signals, tire pressure, first aid kit, and emergency road kit.
• Checks the condition on all operating parts of vehicles, to include: tires, lights, brakes, windshield wipers, etc.
• Reports needed vehicle repairs to Maintenance Worker.
• Maintains accurate documentation related to mileage, consumption of gas, oil, and other service related products.

• Prepares vehicle reports as required.
• Maintains vehicle cleanliness by washing and cleaning as needed.
• Participates in training programs as required.
• Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
• Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS and CERTIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of traditional form of government and pueblo customs and traditions.
• Knowledge of the functions and structure of Ohkay Owingeh.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
• Knowledge of rules of the road and road signage.
• Knowledge of New Mexico driver and passenger service regulations.
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
• Ability to drive safely and efficiently.
• Ability to use a variety of hand tools in performing minor maintenance on assigned vehicles.
• Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
• Ability to safely use cleaning products and safely operate cleaning equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
• Ability to learn the methods of cleaning and caring for buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Ability to demonstrate moral character, honesty, tact, fairness, lack of prejudice, and desire to help when dealing with people.
• Ability to demonstrate excellence in everything, and continually seek improvement in results.
• Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
• Certified in First Aid and CPR or ability to become so within three months of employment.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED plus one-year experience transporting children including children with disabilities, preferably at the elementary and middle school level; experience working with parents of children preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current valid New Mexico Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no DWIs in the past three years. No felony convictions or gross misdemeanors within the past ten years. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or

move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIROMENT:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles may occur, and exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur. Prolonged sitting while driving is a daily occurrence. Evening, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required. Travel within and outside of the pueblo area is required. Additional travel outside of the pueblo area may be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
