POSITION TITLE: CHR Youth Worker PAY RATE: $14.85 – $22.28 per hour
DEPARTMENT: DHHS POSITION STATUS: Seasonal Temporary part time

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
A CHR Health Care Student will shadow a certified Community Health Representative to transport patients to clinics, hospitals and provides emergency First Aid and CPR. The healthcare students will assist in making appointments and makes home visits to improve health care needs. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

NATURE OF WORK
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Assist clients by coordinating transportation patients to and from hospital/clinic appointments, meetings, or consultations and provide direct transport when deemed appropriate.
• Assist with the preparing, organizing as well as assist with a health care presentation to the Ohkay Owingeh Community.
• Aids with patient compliance to therapy by organizing delivery of medical equipment, medications, materials, or supplies to patients’ homes; makes home visits and assists clients in ensuring that equipment is in working order on a regular basis.
• Assists patients in procuring and maintaining dosage schedule of medications, monitors patients’ symptoms.
• Reports any child abuse or domestic violence situations appropriately.
• Assists the CHR with patient care.
• Schedules and follows medical appointments for patients.

• Assist the Public Health Nurse with community members in First Aid and CPR training; assists with diabetes training, drug awareness, childcare, and other subjects related to individual and community welfare.
• Participates in health screenings, Walking and Running Clubs and coordinates with the healthcare providers assigned activity.
• Interprets information regarding medical appointments and medications for patients who are not bilingual and/or have comprehension issues.
• Assist with health screenings or trainings; performs health system checks by performing weight and weight checks, monitor blood pressure as well as other qualified testing.
• Must participate and pass CPR training.
• Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS and CERTIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of traditional form of government and pueblo customs and traditions.
• Some knowledge of health-related issues, medical terminology, and health and child care education.
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
• Must obtain certification in CPR by successfully passing the class.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ages from 16 to 21 years.
• Current valid and clean New Mexico Driver’s License.
• Currently interested in majoring in Health Care related discipline.
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation with fingerprint check
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must assist with lifting patients, which may require using leverage to lift and/or move clients.
WORK ENVIROMENT:
Work is performed in patient homes, on the road, and within the community. Situations where extreme caution must be exercised sometimes occur when contacting individuals at home. Evening, weekend, and/or holiday work will be required. Travel is required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
