Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision of the Administrative Services Division Director, oversees LAN/WAN and Telecommunication network; provides complex system-level support of multi-user operating systems software tools; performs a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, and training tasks to enable users to maximize productivity. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

NATURE OF WORK
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Administers the network utilizing one or more TCP/IP or non-TCP/IP networking protocols and/or one or more UNIX-based and Microsoft based operating systems.
• Configure, install and maintain all routers, switches, firewall and VPN.
• Maintain security of LAN/WAN environment.
• Evaluates and/or recommends purchases of computers, network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software; provides technical consulting services to department/organization regarding use of computers and networks to satisfy business needs.
• Installs, configures, and maintains personal computers, networks, workstations, file servers, ethernet networks, network cabling, and other related equipment, devices, and systems; adds or upgrades and configures modems, disk drives, data acquisition boards, CD ROM units, printers, and related equipment.

• Performs and/or oversees software and application development, installation, and upgrades; maintains site licenses for department/organization.
• Plans and implements network security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, and file system integrity, and adding and deleting users.
• Analyzes customer service telecommunications needs and current delivery systems and programs, and develops and coordinates the implementation of new and/or enhanced customer service systems and programs, as appropriate.
• Performs problem resolution and provides support in-person, email, and telephone information services or computer/network systems.
• Troubleshoots networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
• Maintain network on a 24/7 basis.
• Investigates, plans, implements, tests, and debugs operating system software.
• Plans, coordinates, and schedules backup operations and recovery.
• Prepares on-line and hard copy documentation of systems and user applications.
• Records and maintains software inventories, site and/or server licensing, and user access and security.
• Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
• Creates test environment and test new applications, updates and patches before deploying.
• Monitors and maintains database security and database software.
• Monitors and manages database backups, logs, and journals; install, maintains and upgrades database software; restores and/or recovers data as required.
• Maintains a good communication with co-workers and maintains a positive and professional work environment.
• Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
• Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field with five years’ experience as a network/systems administrator; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer certifications as a CCNA or in Microsoft 2000. Current valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit and stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIROMENT:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Travel will be required.
