Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Education, the Tewa Coordinator assists the Executive Director with implementing programs and activities that increase the levels of Tewa fluency which shall include traditions and culture. The Tewa Coordinator will assist with program reporting, grant writing, and participate in school/board meetings. The Tewa Coordinator shall maintain confidentiality of all privileged information in regards to students, participants, and program staff, etc.

NATURE OF WORK
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials suitable for individualized and small group Tewa Program instruction.
• Assists the Tewa Teachers in on-line Tewa Classes (Zoom) and admits participants into the class.
• Coordinates with current Tewa Teachers to identify Tribal Members to serve as Tewa Teachers.
• Works with current Tewa Teachers and newly appointed Tewa Teachers to secure licensure through the New Mexico Public Education Department (520 NA Licensure).
• Assists with the Program Reporting for all State and Federal funding sources.
• Assists and prepares all required quarterly, semi-annual, and year-end reporting to all funding sources.

• Coordinates meetings between the Ohkay Owingeh Department of Education and designated parties in regards to students and the Tewa Program.
• Assists with the development of a Tewa Language Immersion Program.
• Assists with the development of a Tewa Language Bilingual Seal.
• Uses a diverse learning environment to present subject matter related to the Tewa language to students in a classroom setting.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior essential to achieving a functional learning atmosphere in a classroom setting.
• Prepares, administers, and corrects test and records test results.
• Evaluates students’ academic and social growth by keeping appropriate records and progress reports.
• Keeps attendance, grade records, and student assessment documentation as required by the Board of Education.
• Creates an active environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and learning centers.
• Maintains required inventory records.
• Participates in curriculum development programs and implements the same.
• Participates in the sponsorship of student activities to include in and out-of-classroom activities.
• Performs other duties as required.

• Knowledge of traditional form of government and pueblo customs and traditions.
• Knowledge or understanding of the Tewa Language.
• Knowledge of the functions and structure of Ohkay Owingeh.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations and requirements.
• Knowledge of records management procedures.
• Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English; both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of various social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.

• Skill in directing the activities of groups of youth and adults; evaluating progress and maintaining an orderly classroom setting.
• Skill in writing lesson plans and using curriculum guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field with one-year experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be physically able to perform job duties.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong clerical and computer/database skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
• Current valid New Mexico’s Driver’s License with no DWI’s.
• Must be insurable through the Pueblos insurance Carrier.
• No felony convictions or gross misdemeanors within the past ten years.
• Must successfully be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
WORK ENVIROMENT:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Travel will be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
