To preserve the culture and history of Ohkay Owingeh. Cultural Preservation works with the Ohkay Owingeh Cultural Advisory Team to identify, protect, and preserve archeological and historic sites within the boundaries of Ohkay Owingeh and on lands throughout our ancestral territories and homelands.
Ohkay Owingeh recognizes the need to increase the level of fluency among the community when it comes to the Tewa Language. The Ohkay Owingeh Tewa Language Program offers weekly classes three times a week for 2-3 hours a session to address the need to increase the Tewa Language being spoken through out the community. Average nightly attendance per class ranges from 10-15 community members. The classes cover a variety of subjects as well as retreat trips to culturally relevant locations.
Culture is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration.
