Water Services

Ohkay Owingeh Utility Services is responsible for the provision of safe and adequate water for a fee to homes, business establishments, and public institutions connected to the community water systems. Utility service maintenance will include water sampling, storage tanks, controls, main lines, valves, hydrants and service lines to the curb stop or meter only.

THE SERVICE LINE FROM THE CURB STOP OR METER TO THE HOSE AND INTERIOR HOUSDE PLUMBING ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CUSTOMER.

Facts on Fluoridation

  • New Mexico Water Service currently does not plan to fluoridate its water sources.
  • Most sources of drinking water naturally contains some fluoride. Community water fluoridation is the process of adjusting the naturally occurring fluoride level to the level recommended to prevent tooth decay.
  • Seventy percent of the U.S. population lives in communities served by fluoridated water supplies.
  • Fluoridation does not change the taste, odor, or appearance of your water.

Sewage Services

Ohkay Owingeh Utility Services is responsible for the provision of sanitary disposal of domestic waste for a fee to those homes, business establishments and public institutions connected to the main lines of the community sewage system. Utility Service maintenance will include main lines and manholes, lift stations, force mains and service lines to the property line to the house.

INTERIOR HOUSE PLUMBING IS THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CUSTOMER IN THE LACK OF CLEARLY DEFINES PROPERTY LINES. THE RESPNSIBILITY FOR SEWER SERVICES MAINTENANCE SHALL END AT THE SEWER MAIN.

Solid Waste

Ohkay Owingeh Utility Services is responsible for the management of the Transfer Station, which includes but is not limited to collection and billing associated with the facility use. The department will oversee day-to-day operations specified in the standard operating procedures and has the responsibility to promulgate all solid waste issues within the boundaries of the Reservation.
